Back in 2003, CEO & Founder Nathan Stooke’s neighbor, just two miles down the road from him, needed internet. In solving this issue, Nathan realized how many others nearby were still without internet. Wisper was born out of a desire to solve this problem for more than just his neighbors. Nathan convinced his wife to max out their credit cards and he started Wisper out of his 1986 Honda Accord with a fold up ladder. 20 years and six states later, Wisper is still connecting those that need reliable, high-speed internet.

In 2018, Wisper was awarded $220.3 million from the Federal Communications Commission through the Connect America Fund, Phase II Auction; the second-highest winner nationwide. Wisper views the CAF II funds as a catalyst to their continued commitment to closing the digital divide.

From its humble beginnings in O’Fallon, IL, Wisper has expanded its services across southern Illinois, as well as Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Indiana, and Oklahoma. Today, Wisper employs more than 200 people and has grown to service more than 20,000 subscribers.

Many communities across our coverage area are considered unserved and underserved, lacking speeds of 100Mbps. As part of Wisper’s ongoing commitment to our customers, we understand internet is just as important as any other utility, like water or electricity, and should be reliable and affordable. We serve the communities we are in with customer-focused internet, always; connecting communities to the things they need the most. Wisper is driven to create opportunities that make a difference, allowing people to work and live where they want by bringing high-speed internet to places other providers won’t.
